Just left a weekend in NYC with Lish

Sing it Sister. A great quote from Joanna Woodward

Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman married 45 years. Let's face it she's right sexiness and beauty comes and goes. Give me someone who is fun and makes me happy no matter what they look like. It's about how they make you feel. Although Paul Newman....Yum

Tell me about it Taylor

Taylor's Take: Taylor Tomasi Hill Styles Amanda Hearst in Her Fall Must-Haves for Barneys New York from Barneys The Window on Vimeo.

So this is a video of fashion insider Taylor Tomasi Hill going through fall fashion/fall trends. Small problem, she didn't actually TELL us anything. And of the outfits we see here, I only liked one maybe 2. Truth be told there were several that I thought we plane old ugly, and unflattering.

Everything is coming up Bonnie Rait

About a month ago I posted on my facebook a video of Adele (loooooovvveee her) covering Bonnie Rait's I can't make you love me. Well Bonnie has certainly become very popular with the new cool kids in music. Just this morning I found the below video of BonIver covering the same song. Love them both, ooooppps I mean all three versions.

A family is a family . . .

I've been thinking a lot about families lately.
I felt such hope with the passing of gay marriage.
I think people are entitled to their opinions -
but to me it just always seemed like discrimination.

I think a family is based on love and respect and committment.
And challenges present themselves in every relationship.
This picture just so resonates with me.
Can't you just feel the love?
It's palpable.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg (R) walks away after presiding over the wedding of Jonathan Mintz (L), the city's consumer affairs commissioner, and John Feinblatt (C), a chief adviser to the mayor, as the newlyweds embrace their daughters Maeve (2nd L) and Georgia at Gracie Mansion in New York July 24, 2011.

I am the person I love, so this quote means becoming bored with myself. Never gonna happen.

Yo Yo Yo

So there has been an outpouring of support for Tizzy and I in the last couple of days. Peeps were wondering what happened to us. And to be honest I'm not sure. I can't really post while at work anymore. I used to update a lot during lunch, or quickly at my desk, but that is not really possible at my new gig. So hmmmmm let's see what have I been doing.

-I've had a very busy social schedule, or let me say I have gotten out of my own way enough to have more fun in the last couple months than I have in the last couple of years. Here's to the year of yes!!!!!

-I've taken two sessions of tennis lessons

-I've hit up 5 streetfests

-I've been on one blind date, (it was fun, but no real follow up)

-I had a corporate outing that took an entire weekend.

-I tried a new diet/food system (lost two lbs the first week, then gained 3 the second week so I went back to normal eating after that)

-I started using anti-aging creams and potions, cause I was looking haggard.

-I started smoking again, but am doing accupuncture Thursday to quit again, and FINALLY.

-I celebrated Stylish older sisters 40th b-day, and Susie-Q's 70th in one big family filled weekend.

-I pierced a guys ear at a party, and then spent a month swooning over him, even though he lives 5 hours away and is an eternal bachelor. But really in my defense I kind of used him to get over a different eternal bachelor, it didn't really work. I need to quit eternal bachelors more than I need to quit smoking maybe.

-I started working out in the morning, then two weeks in I threw out my back again, so I had to stop that.

That's all I can think of for now folks.

Bring it, B . . .

This had me laughing and clapping this morning.
I could not love this Lady more.
I can't tell who's having more fun - B or the kids.

But really - it's the kids who steal the show.
I love how after the initial surprise - they keep with it.
As if to say,
"Bring it, B"

What a great lesson for us all.
And definetly my motto the next time I run into a superstar and have a dance off.
Holler!

PS: Lish and More-Stylish-Sista -
I think we need a number for the glamour gala happening June 3rd.
Or really just to have in our back pockets if ever challenged to a dance-off.
You know how I love a song and dance number.

If I Blink My Eyes and Concentrate REAL Hard

I will wake up and coffee is this breakfast room tomorrow. Maybe with some fresh croissants, and beery compote.

I was just kidding about the berry compote. I don't even know what that is. But it sounds like it goes with croissants right?

Lesson Learned . . .

Last night was the superbowl of fashion known as the Met Ball.
With the exhibit a tribute to Alexander McQueen -
it was almost guaranteed to see some whackadoodle stuff out there.

These people did not disappoint.

I could not hate you more, Demi.
Whoever put you in that is not your friend.
Naomi girl, you are a bit whackadoodle so it doesn't seeem as awful.

So after these and many other frothy, contrived dresses
the ones I loved the most were so simple.
Really a one-two punch.
First they knock in the face with color or sparkle - BAM!
Then you're putting down the chocolate chip cookie in your hand cause the fit is bananas - PAZOW!

And here they are -

And yes, this is frothy but I love it.

But this is by far the best
Modern, simple, chic and glitzy.
All words I would love to hear after my own name.

Well done.
This is totally your year.

If I were to become a princess bride

This would be the picture you commoners would see of Tizzy and I

Don't be jealous that I'm becoming a princess Tizzy, cause you would get to wear the better dress.

On a separate note didn't you LOVE this Royal wedding? Everyone just seemed so calm so happy.

It Strikes Again!!!

The bad date fairy. I went on a bad date last week. Here was my basic synopsis to anyone who asked. Bad date, not good, not fun, middle-aged balding, possibly gay? Moved from a small town in Michigan to Chicago less than a month ago. I don't stay on bad dates anymore, I leave after the second drink which is normally somewhere between an hour and half. Sometimes you just know. I told him it was really nice meeting you, but I just don't see this working out. Good luck to you in the future. Sometimes they get it, sometimes they ask why not. I usually fall back on the, there just isn't that connection/spark for me. So two days after my date I got this e-mail:

I'm thinking I owe you an explaination. During the past couple years I've found myself being attracted to men a few times. Part of coming to Chicago is to try and sort that out. I'm still attracted to women and don't feel like I would be bi, so I need to figure it out. I don't remember thinking about our date once last weekend. I thought as it got closer, I would be looking forward to it more, but that never happened. I'm sorry for how little time I spent in getting ready. When I saw how much time you spent in getting ready, I felt like shit. All I can do is say sorry for this happening and wish you the best. Btw, the thai place is called 'My Thai', it's good but not great. Also, I'm totally not country, and am actually a little offended by that!

You got me again match.com. You sent me on a date with a gay man.

Your Modern Working Woman

Should be dressed something like this.

Contemporary, clean lines, nothing overly sexy, nothing too low cut, or too short. Professional while still being comfortable, feminine, and polished. This is great if you work in serious suit world, just throw on a jacket. It works in a business casual environment, No jeans here. Or even a casual office. Even though I can wear jeans, I still like to wear alternatives too. Trouser pants, feminine tops, and wrap dresses are what every working girl should lean on.

It's Cold Damn-It

It is April 25th today, and it's cold and rainy. All week it is supposed to be cold and rainy. I am not happy about this. If it is going to be below average temps, we should at least get sunshine, and clear skies. Nope, uh-uh, not Chicago. We have damp, dark, dank cold. Boooooooo. But the look of this chic, makes me think Spring. I want to be where ever she is, doing what ever it is she is doing. I'm loving her easy shurbert colored style. And even though those paper flowers wouldn't last 5 minutes in my care, I want to carry them too.

This makes me wish I never gave up playing the cello

A Woman Should

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...

enough money within her control to move out
and rent a place of her own,
even if she never wants to or needs to...
something perfect to wear if the employer,
or date of her dreams wants to see her in an hour...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ..

a youth she's content to leave behind....
a past juicy enough that she's looking forward to
retelling it in her old age....
a set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill, and a black lace bra...
one friend who always makes her laugh... and one who lets her cry...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE .......

a good piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in her family...
eight matching plates, wine glasses with stems,
and a recipe for a meal,
that will make her guests feel honored...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ..

a feeling of control over her destiny...
how to fall in love without losing herself..

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

how to quit a job,
break up with a lover,
and confront a friend without;
ruining the friendship....

Stylish older sis sent me this poem by Maya Angelou last week. It's right on. The only thing on here I lack is a drill. Do you read this and think, huh I don't have that, feel that, need that?

I guarantee . . .

This is a place you will NEVER find me.
NEVER.

I'm just saying.

I'm digusted

By the looming possibility of the government shutting down in just mere hours. I blame both parties. This is the most clear cut example of politicing I have ever seen. From what I have seen and read so far, it appears that both sides are looking out for their party/their own future political careers. But no one seems to be looking out the American people. I know we've had a shut down before, and we made it through that, but we weren't in a war then. And now the soldiers, and their families are being used as a bargaining chip. We have one side digging in their heels after they felt they have compromised (to save face). The other side is throwing things on that have no business being part of the budget, and they know full well will sink the whole thing. It's a tough financial climate for everyone. All states are having to make cutbacks that will affect the many people. Look at Illinois raising their income tax. Look at the fracas that just happened in Wisconsin over collective bargaining agreements. The Federal government has to make these tough decisions too. I'm an accountant, I have been through this with companies when they are scaling back. It's REALLY not easy to decide where/who to cut from. But it's not THIS hard. The only thing a shutdown will accomplish is the politicians involved will be able to save face for their constituents on where/why they decided to make the cuts.

Do you flare? ? ?

I am not thin-thighed.
I wish I was because I would rock this look in one hot second.

And don't they just look so fresh standing next to the skinny's.

But really I love everything about this woman and the photograph

Don't you just know she's got a great story to tell?

Someone is NOT happy

You better listen up, J.Crew.

You better shut the hell up and listen to what I’m about to say.

What in the FUCK are these pants? No, seriously, I’m asking you a question. WHAT. In the FUCK. Are those PANTS. Are they leggings? Are they sweatpants? Are they only meant to be worn indoors? If so, fine. But if the answer to any of those questions is “no,” then you have got some SERIOUS FUCKING EXPLAINING TO DO. Because those pants make the model, whose ass is likely 1/1000000th the size of mine, look like she is wearing a goddamn diaper. A DIAPER, J.CREW. Do you hear what I am saying? YOU ARE MAKING CLOTHES THAT GIVE THE ILLUSION THAT THE WEARER IS INCONTINENT AND THEREFORE HAS TO WEAR DEPENDS.

And also? Who on god’s green fucking earth would wear those with heels? HEELS!? If someone is going to wear a pair of pants that makes even A MODEL’S LEGS look like motherfucking drumsticks from KFC, then they SURE AS SHIT are not going to be wearing them with goddamn heels. They are going to be wearing them with flip flops from 2002 that they picked up for free when they left a fraternity house on a Saturday morning in college, or maybe, JUST MAYBE, that they purchased at Old Navy for $1.99 AT THE VERY MOST, and these flip flops are NOT going to be doing any favors to their backside, but that is going to be okay with them because IF YOU ARE WEARING THESE PANTS YOU HAVE GIVEN UP ON YOUR ASS.

We used to be friends, J.Crew. We used to have really great times together. I used to peruse your sale section and find things that I actually wanted to purchase and bring into my home at a modest discount. Now I flip through your sale pages and see nothing but a bunch of oversized costume jewelry too gauche for a Liza Minnelli drag queen impersonator, NINE THOUSAND VERSIONS of the exact same striped shirt, and two pairs of grey windsocks that you took off of a car at a tailgate, sewed together, and decided to market as “pants.” But these are not pants, J.Crew. These are an EMBARRASSMENT. Get back to your ballet flats and your perfect fit Ts and your skirt suits and let’s just CALL IT A MOTHERFUCKING DAY.

Filed under Full Disclosure: I wrote this post at 1am Thank god my brief is due tomorrow.

That HILARIOUS rant was brought to us by Julia over at www.fullcredit.tumblr.com. I posted it because I thought it was hilarious, but after further inspection of the picture, I do really think that model is a MAN. Or has man arms, I mean there is nothing flattering about those pants, or that picture. I thought Jcrew had gone too far with sequined harem pants. But then I thought, oh maybe only because I have a big but and wouldn't want to wrap it in a the equivalent of a sparkly diaper (not it's best look really), and create a sparkly camel toe. Maybe people with pancake asses would love the shine, and the bunched up fabric would add dimension for them????? But no, Julia is right, Jcrew has gone a little far these days. No one needs to look like this.

Admittedly

I'm not the most prolific cook. I have a dozen or so key dishes that I love and rotate, as not to get bored. I have cooked a full Holiday meal for the family on my own. I can put together a full dinner party if I want to, and follow a recipe to completion and satisfaction. What I don't understand is when I am reading other blogs like www.ramshackleglam.com or www.cupcakesandcashmere.com, the things they make. Their full on meals, or quick recipes tips I get. But really who needs/wants to make their own granola, or graham crackers, or THIN MINTS for the love of the lord. I mean clearly these ladies are into cooking (and especially baking) more than I am. But the really a thin mint, you need your own recipe for that. And Granola there are so many healthy all natural, options out there. Why are you wasting the time making your own. There is no way it is more economical than the box at Trader Joe's.

PS: I'm coooking dinner right now, a marinated chicken breast and baked potato.

Style Crush

A Breezy day by lake. How cute am I (this isn't me, this is a pic of what I want my new spring style to be)

Jeans and a black top never looked so cute as they do with big jeweled earing and patented blue shoes.

This is a potential Easter look I would like to rock, teal green jewels and Violet dress.

I have a Lady Crush on Diane Von Furstenberg

I have a serious Lady crush on Diane Von Furstenberg. Not only because I look good in a wrap dress (which I do, I really really do), but becuase she is powerful without being hard. She is stylish without being stuffy or imposing of her style. She seems like a chick I would want to hang out with, driven, successful, soulful, family-oriented, and seemingly unflappable. Below are her rules to live by.

Diane’s 10 Rules to Live by (from Elle Magazine)

* Trust yourself. “The secret to feeling attractive, and to being attractive, is the confidence that comes from knowing who you are and what you believe in.”

* Accept the passage of time. “The older you get, the more you should learn to love life and appreciate the beauty that comes with age.”

* Document your days. “Carry a camera and create an inspiring visual diary of your life.”

* Your suitcase symbolizes your life. “The best way to know a woman is to open her luggage. If she knows how to pack well, it means she understands , and cherishes, how to live a simplified life.”

* Fashionable friends. “Choose fashions that make you happy. I hope the clothes I design will become my clients’ best friends. That way, when they open their closets, they will always encounter someone special.”

* Dress your personality. “Always choose styles that also accentuate your personality. Don’t use fashion to try and project a different persona. Authenticity is key.”

* Use your feminine power. “My mother taught me that being a woman is a privilege because the world revolves around us! It is a precious gift, and its power should be used in a subtle and respectful way.”

* Your handbag is your guide. “Before leaving home, check your agenda and organize your bag according to what you have to do that day. Keeping everything in order makes life easier.”

* Indulge yourself. “If you are like me, and don’t want to resort to Botox, book regular massages. I’m sure it helps to keep everything firm and in it’s place!”

* Lead a balanced life. “The best regimen is to keep moving! Never stop working, travelling and seeking adventure. Drink plenty of water, limit alcohol and sugar and get to your yoga class!”

Diane has floor to ceiling bookshelves! With library ladders! As if I could worship her more!!!!

Putting Your Best Foot Forward

On Match.com, that's what you have to do. You definitely select the best pictures of yourself. Not just standing there either you are creating a picture profile of yourself. That picture profile is more important infact than the things you write about yourself.

I ask you then, why oh why would someone post THIS

There are so many things wrong with the dudes in this picture I don't even know where to start. But I will. Let's start with the guy on the left.

Spray tanned? Sleeveless WAAAAAY too unbuttoned shirt, Stylish(?!?!?!)double leather strand necklaces. Hat on a day that didn't even require sleeves on your shirt? Stubble, whilst sporting a waxed chest. It's a look buddy, just not mine.

Guy on the Right:

Tiger graphic tee, who do you think you are Charlie Sheen. The hair. Women printed buttondown.

What do you think either of these guys are trying to portray about themselves in this picture. Other than they are an odd couple, and open to the idea of people who are different from themselves, because they also seem like an unlikely pair. I have to say if this is an example of the best that is to come with either of these guys, I don't want to see the worst.

Nine Years Ago

I was on a beach in Hawaii, in a beautiful black dress (my favorite dress of all time) crying........

Tears of Joy because Tizzy was marrying the Husby!!!!! Yup that's right today is Tizzy and Husby's 9th anniversary. It seems like yesterday we were in paradise with our friends and family laughing, dancing, and toasting the love between these two great people. We had the big Kahuna, driving the Kahuna Schooner, with his little tuna sitting passenger, loving Charo. The post wedding dinner took place next to a nice little lagoona.

There were some serious competitions, the Mr's Lambe were driving the naughty neon, challenging each other to a week-long mini-golf competition on the roof of their hotel before we went out each night. My dad was challenging stylish older sisters husband to an underwater swimming competition. Her was feeling seriously challenged by the amount of pineapple served with everything. And we were slightly challenged by car troubles on the road to Hanna (sp?)

That week was filled with so many great times and memories. But the reason for it all was the love the Tizzy and the Husby share. It was obvious 9 years ago, and is still glaringly obvious today. Congrats Tizzy!!!

Success-ories!!!

Some of my favorite leading ladies were well, misses last night on the Oscar red carpet. My keen eye wasn't at it's best lastnight because I didn't even realize that the women who wore some of my least favorite dresses, had on some of my favorite jewels.

Reese Witherspoon's Hand, double art-deco diamond bracelet's, and an emerald ring Glamourous.

ScarJo's Ring, can we say colorful cocktail.

Marissa Tomei's Bracelet, Ornate, Colorful, Interesting

Nicole Kidman's Necklace, hello!

And the winners are . . .

Celine Dion in Armani Prive

Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein

Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang

Bravo, ladies.  Bravo.
I thought the rest of the Oscar's were pretty boring.
Except for these guys.
They were awesome.

Do you know your pattern?

Your weight pattern? I know mine. I lose weight in the winter, keep it off in the summer, and BAM once laborday hits it's all down hill. See it goes Laborday, my birthday, Halloween, Thanksgiving, X-mas, followed by New Years. All holidays that call for copious consumption. In case you're wondering yes, laborday because it is essentially a good bye to summer party weekend that includes bbq's, streetfests, and your last time at your favorite al fresco restaurants.

I had a friend ask me how I could lose weight in the winter that's when she gains. It's very simple really, for me, I work out a lot and eat well in the winter because I am staying in more, since bbbrrrrrr it's cold outside. I cook and therefore eat less, and well better, instead of digging my car out of a snow mound, or braving the below zero temps. I go to the gym more often to avoid spending hours sitting or laying on my couch since, I'm staying in. The summer I usually maintain the weight loss by long runs outside to enjoy the weather. Eat lots of salads, and fresh veggies, and fruits. Then BAM the fall hits and it's an adjustment to get back in the routine of packing a bag and going to the gym. The eating we've already talking about. And that's it here comes the weight.

I can't believe Tizzy didn't post this

She's loving yellow dresses lately, I can't believe she hasn't posted this. Although maybe it's more tangerine.

BBBRRRRRRRR

It's like freaking freezing again here in Chicago. Brrrrrr, so cold all day, my nose has somehow never managed to warm up all day. You know how that happens, and once it does, that's it your done. All hope of getting warm is over until your nose gets warm. But I figured if I have to be cold I could at least look good doing it. If you want to look luxe and fabulous this is IT to me. Fur, sequins, and metalic tweed. Check, check, and check. Pair with a suede large clutch for one more element of texture and voila luxe and winter at it's best.

Am I the only one . . .

Who really wants a pair of hot pink pants?

Look what came to live with me . . .

Isn't she a beauty?
Never till I saw it in Whole Foods did I realize that Stephanotis was a plant.
Now I do and she's all mine.
And she smells delicious.

Can you even believe?!?

That this little slice of heaven was NYC yesterday?
Hello! It's February for goodness sake.

I hope your weekend is filled with unexpected surprises just like this.
Who'd of thought I'd be sporting a tank top for a run in FEBRUARY!!

Happy Weekend!
